Retaining walls around here rarely fail from the front — they fail from behind. Clay holds water, and that water becomes pressure against the back of the wall until something gives.
Every wall we build gets gravel backfill and a drain path, so water leaves instead of pushing. It's the part nobody sees, and it's the reason ours stay straight.
Short garden walls are straightforward. Once you get past roughly four feet, most cities want an engineered design and a permit. We'll tell you which side of that line your project sits on before we quote it.
